Dog Kennels and Runs

by Suzie

Wondering if the credit crunch and associated slump in property prices had affected animal housing, we carried out an investigation to see what sort of dog kennels and runs were currently available.

Exceptionally active

One company (www.reeveskennels.co.uk) claimed to be ‘exceptionally active’ in developing what they described as their outstanding quality animal housing.

These included modular dog kennels and galvanised run panels. All their products, they said, were constructed by professional craftsmen.

And, anyone who fancied making one of their own, was welcome to call upon the expertise of these professionals to guide them through the whole process from drawing up plans to hammering in the last nail. Or whatever.

They’re not all house-trained

The dog kennel and run can be something very basic, perhaps built of several wood panels, to a mini-version of his master’s house, centrally-heated, double-glazed with walls and roof insulation.

Dog Kennel and runs are great places to accommodate several dogs, whether kept for racing, hunting or to work on the land with their master. It is more practical to keep these dogs out of doors, because not all of them are house-trained. Besides, they enjoy open spaces much more than being cooped up inside the house.

Resting those weary limbs

Pampered pooches are occasionally given some sort of indoor dog kennels. Few suburban homes are large enough to accommodate these in their living room, so most household pets settle for a comfortable cushion, of a nice soft dog bed on which to rest their weary limbs.

Occupy his mind

Puppies-in-training are best kept in a dog pen until they have complete control of their basic functions. These pens also ensure that the puppy is safe until his owner is free to let him out.

Like small children in a play pen, if the puppy has plenty to occupy his mind, he should be fine. Just make sure he has plenty of toys to play with, and the company of his family within earshot. Then he shouldn’t feel in any way isolated.

Basic bodily functions

Mention of dog runs brings something else to mind in terms of young animals and their basic bodily functions. What, one might ask, causes diarrhoea in dogs?

As in humans, the condition can have many causes; among them bacterial and viral infections. It can be something they have eaten (or drunk) or be the result of parasitic infestation. Inflammatory bowel disease can be another factor. Dogs with compromised immune systems, or those on certain medications, can also be affected in this way.

Allow time to recover

Diarrhoea should be treated by with-holding food for 12 hours after its occurrence. This will allow the stomach and intestines time to recover. But it is still important to give the affected animal access to water, so that he does not become dehydrated.

Diarrhoea going on longer than a week – particularly if accompanied by vomiting – calls for a visit to the vet.

But we’re getting off the point a little here. You can find cheap dog kennels and runs for sale at a variety of online outlets as well as the larger pet suppliers, or you could always make your own!
