Puppy Training Pads

by Suzie

There is no shortage of puppy training pads on the market today. They come in a variety of sizes to fit the smallest teacup puppy right up to a lolloping great young Mastiff.

Like diapers for babies, these can be purchased in bulk from several online outlets or from the local pet store.

Training an Irish Wolfhound?

Four Paws Wee Wee puppy pads come in attractive boxes of 30, with some super savings, meaning that the more you buy, the more you save.

For owners deep into puppy training an Irish Wolhound or a St. Bernard, Extra large Tendercare pads come in packs of 100. From the same online outlet UgoDog are also available for training puppies too big to squash themselves on to the smaller size.

When they’re good and ready

Potty training a puppy – like potty training a child – can be a simple task for some people, extremely difficult for others.

Puppies, like children, are individuals. They’ll do it when they’re good and ready.

No mess on the carpet

Some owners find it useful to put the dog-in-training into a puppy crate where they know he will be safe and in no danger of making a mess on the carpet.

With a puppy training pad or pads covering the floor of the crate, any children in the family will be less likely to stumble across anything unpleasant.

This might therefore be considered a more hygienic option for young families.

Keeping the moisture in

In the UK, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) do their own brand of pads aimed at house-training puppies. These are non-slip, durable, disposable. The fact that they lock moisture in means that they are more comfortable for the dog, and better for the family, because they eliminate the possibility of messy puddles and and other deposits on the living room floor.

As with most of the other pads currently on the market RSPCA training pads are available from a variety of retail stores and online outlets.

Don’t give up

The secret of training a puppy is patience and perseverence.

Don’t give up. The little chappie will soon get the message. Puppies are creatures of habit. They thrive on lots of praise and encouragement. With the odd treat thrown in for good measure, it shouldn’t take long for them to learn.

If the little newcomer is placed on one of these puppy training pads every time he starts showing signs of wanting to empty his bladder or bowels, and sniffing around for a likely place to do so, he will be heading for the mat himself, in no time.
